History of Parish
St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Enyinare was carved out of Christ the King Catholic Church (CKC) Okene on the 29thJune, by His Lordship, Most Rev. Dr. Alexius O. Makozi of blessed memory the then Bishop of Lokoja Diocese.
At its creation, the lay congregation of about 150 worshipers used one of the classrooms in Queen of Apostle College, Okene for Sunday worship.
Regular Sunday worship in the school continued until the appointment of Late Very Rev. Fr. Joseph Ohieku as its pioneer parish priest in 1992. Late Fr. Ohieku insisted that the available funds from the launching made in respect of the church organised under Late Fr. Barnabas Anikoh (then parish priest of CKC Okene) was moved from CKC to start the new parish.
Morning Mass were celebrated in the sitting room of the Rev. Fr. House.
The basement of the church was completed and opened on 26thDecember, 1995.
This made it possible to relocate all forms of worships from Queen of Apostle College and Rev. Fr’s sitting room to the Church.
Dedication of the church by Late Bishop Ajomo and Late Bishop Alexius Makozi was done on December 8th 2003.
The population of residents within the parish is estimated at about 56,920 of which catholic members about 1,948 including two outstations: St. Michael’s Catholic Church Eganyi, and St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Adogo, which were attached to the parish by Bishop Martin Olorunmolu in June 2006.
