History of Parish
In 1926, Odolu became a Mass centre. Prominent members of the Church included Late Chief Obalahakun and Late Pa Oparawoja. In 1930, there was a general persecution of religious beliefs which hampered the growth of the Church. The worship centre was reopened in 1940 with Late Timothy Olufere as the Catechist, but it became defunct the second time.
Before Revd Fr. Louis R. Fowoyo left kabba Parish in 1993, he had started a Mass centre at Owode and it was flourishing well. In 1944, Revd Fr. Dr. Michael Sasa who took over opened a second Mass centre at Odolu. There was no Church building but a foundation which then, Revd. Fr. Martin D.A Olorunmolu, Late J.I Olorunleke and others had labored to put in place.
In the absence of a Church building, Revd. Fr. Dr. Michael Sasa celebrated the first Mass centre in a mechanics (Mr. Peter Obando’s) shade on 30th October, 1994. Such was the humble beginning of the Holy Family of Nazareth Catholic Church, Odolu.
We remember the dynamic contributions of the following indigenous Priests towards the growth of the Church.
Revd. Fr. Martin D.A Olorunmolu (1982-1986)
Revd. Fr. Dr. Michael Sasa (1993-1996)
Revd. Fr.Dr. Jerome K.O Bello (Late) (1996-1999)
I thank the following individuals for their contributions to the write-up.
