History of Parish
The idea of a Catholic Chaplaincy in the Federal University Lokoja was first muted in 2012 when about 20 (twenty) Catholic Students gathered under a tree for fellowship. This was further boosted by the Catholic Bishop of Lokoja Diocese, Most Rev. Dr. Martins D. Olorunmolu who sent Rev. Fr. Paul-Kolade Tubi to officiate Sunday Masses for the students as a supplementary function to his primary assignment at Mopa Parish, Kogi State.
When the University’s authority gave approval for the establishment of Catholic Chaplaincy at the Adankolo Campus, the Bishop appointed Father Paul-Kolade Tubi as the first Chaplain. It is pertinent to note that Fr. Paul has since been instrumental to the growth of the Catholic community in Federal University Lokoja. He was eventually appointed a lecturer in the Department of History and International Studies, Federal University Lokoja an enormous task he gladly combined with being the Chaplain of Regina Caeli Catholic Chaplaincy, Federal University Lokoja till date.
The Catholic chaplaincy initially planned for students and staff of Federal University Lokoja community was however embraced by some members of the Catholics faithful within Lokoja metropolis; the centre which began in a lecture room has metamorphosed into a full-fledged chaplaincy.
By 1st of May 2014, the Catholic Bishop of Lokoja Diocese laid the foundation stone of Regina Caeli Catholic Chaplaincy, Federal University Lokoja. With the grace of God coupled with effective pastoral activities there is an on-going mobilization of staff, students, and Catholic faithful outside F. U. Lokoja and friends for the building of the Catholic chaplaincy. The chaplaincy was designed to have a chapel with seating capacity of 500 worshipers, a rectory, sacristy, library, offices and rest rooms.
As St. Paul says in 1 St. Cor. 3:6 – “I planted seeds, Apollos watered it, but God made it grow”; to the glory of God, today we have a vibrant Chaplaincy planted by the students,
staff, the worshipping community and their Chaplain, actively watered by the under-listed groups and societies under the spiritual munificence of God Almighty.
