History of Parish
The bid to evangelize Kabba parish began when the SMA Missionaries were sent to found the Vicariate of Western Nigeria in 1888, the area fell into the Vicariate.
Msgr. Carlo Zappa, the great astronomer who laboured with his predecessor, Fr. Jules-Ambrose Poirier (1884-1888) came here between 1888 and 1906.
In this Vicariate, he had eleven divisions called districts. Lokoja was the ninth with Kabba as an outstation.
Msgr. Zappa began to send resident Priests to each division/district. In 1919, Fr. Ferdinand Berengarie Cereminanti, who was the resident Priest at Lokoja decided to open Kabba station.
He met the district/divisional British Officer in charge of the area and with the Obaro (traditional ruler) of the area, they began to assemble people for the word of God with a view to building churches, schools and hospitals etc. They were successful and by 1930, numerous converts were already baptized and there were many churches in and around the town.
