History of Parish
What is known as Ss. Michael, Gabriel & Raphael Catholic Churc.h today, started with the interaction of some legionaries (Mrs. Enemali, Mr Emmanuel Idakwo & Mr. Michael Anoja. Their early effort culminated into the gathering of six families for prayers in Gadumo on June 18, 2000.
The families include: The families of;
- Michael Anoja,
- Emmanuel ldakwo
- Moses Gbaka
- Francis Ukwuani
- late Samuel Onoja
- John Ukwuteno.
This early effort saw the first families gathering at Pa Michael Anoja’s compound for prayers every Wednesday & Saturday. Gradually, others from the neighbouring quarters came to join the group and that was the beginning of its growth.
This early group then gathered on Sundays for worship at a site known as “Bethlehem Church”. Catechist Michael Igweshi from Adankolo chaplaincy came for service on Sunday, later the priests from the seminary in Adankolo (Frs.Akinyemi, Bancy, Abaukaka at different times) included the station under their schedule.
With the expulsion of civilians from the Army Barracks and their subsequent relocation to the Housing Estates located in Gadumo and it environs, the number naturally increased. This necessitated the movement to the permanent site, on a land which was acquired through the instrumentality of the late bishop, Most Rev. Dr. Joseph Sunday Ajomo.
On June 4, 2006 it was created a Quasi-Parish by the Most Revd. Dr. Martin Dada Abejide Olorunmolu with Ganaja as an outstation. Since then, this pastoral jurisdiction has grown in terms of numbers, structures and-spirituality.
On June 4, 2008, it was made a full fledged parish after the construction of her Rectory – which was dedicated by the Bishop of the Diocese, Bishop Martin Olorunmoiu on June 8, 2008. The construction of the new Church building is on-going. A domestic staff house has been put in place.
We now have two Masses in Gadumo 8.00am (adult) and 8:00am (Children). Another outstation has been opened-St. Augustine Catholic Church, Kwararafa (Sunday Masses – 6:30am,Thursdays 6:00pm and Saturdays-7:00am).We now have parish activities involving various Basic Community units, the societies and organizations.
We thank the good Lord for this development. The structural developments continue. As we strive to achieve our aims and objectives on the rapid development of the parish, we pray that generous donations will come our way to assist us achieve our dream.
