History of Parish
St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Isanlu, was created as a parish in 1964, having been carved out of Sacred Heart Catholic Kabba.
By its creation, all stations in Yagba area that used to be under Kabba fell within the geographical land mass of Isanlu Parish.
When the Parish was created in 1964, the catholic members of Isanlu were natives of Ijowa and Irunda.
It is worthy of note that the present parishes of Egbe, Ogbom, and Mopa with their respective outstations were all outstations under the old Isanlu Parish which had eight (8) outstations: Ife Olukotun, Isao, Oranre, Poyan, Ejuku, Ijowa, Onjembo, Idofin.
Don’t be deceived by the number.
Catholicism in Yagba land struggles everyday for survival in predominantly ECWA controlled area. At present, Isanlu Parish has only Ife-olukotun and Isao as outstations. She is sure of, though, Isao has diminished in percentage. The other six (6) are at God’s mercy since He is the owner of his church.
The three (3) out of these six are at the verge of extinction.
Well, for God, anything is possible.
