History of Parish
The history of Osisi Parish can be traced to the year 1959 when Late Rev. Fr. Guy Mallette arrived in Okene Parish. He was a Canadian priest.
Rev. Fr. U. Pellerin was then the Parish Priest of Christ the King Church, Okene.
Late Rev. Fr. Guy Mallette was put in charge of Adavi District (composed of Osisi and environs) for evangelization.
Years after, there was the need to carve out Osisi Parish from the mother church C.K.C Okene when there was growth in the number of new coverts.
Worship centers were created.
Osisi was made the main parish centre, with the installation of the statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the Late Pa Michael Ihiezu’s compound, now referred to as “Idanubobo” (Christian Compound) Other centers were Nagazi, Ogaminana, Oziokutu, Osara, Eika-Ohizenyi, Okaito, Kuroko.
There was a tremendous record of adherence to the Catholic faith which motivated the hardworking priest, Rev. Fr. Guy Mallette to start the building of the church.
Communal labour was used, the priest was the bricklayer, the carpenter and the stone-breaker.
Three other virile stations namely, St. Joseph’s Nagazi-Uvete, St. Philip’s, Itakpe (The Camp of the National Iron-Ore Mining Company) and St. Paul’s, Okonyi (a farm center of Osisi people) were founded during the era of Rev. Fr. George Ehusani who began a great development of the Parish from December 1982.
In 1991, Obangede Parish (with Okaito as outstation) was created out of Osisi.
On June 3, 2006, Itakpe Parish was created with Osara as one of the outstations.
Some day, Okonyi was also excised and made part of Sacred Heart Parish, Kabba for geographical and logistic reasons.
Osisi also lost Eika station to C.K.C Okene parish while she gained St. Paul’s, Enyidudu from the latter for logistic reasons.
St. Francis Xavier Otite, founded by Rev. Fr. Andrew Otu, is the newest baby of the parish.
